61 - Macquarie Island through others eyes...........

Hello Friends,

Yep its that time again but this time believe it or not this blog is nothing like what I had planned, mainly due to the weather. Why is that inhibiting me for doing what I want you say, well what I did have planned in my mind of minds was a little walk up the east coast take some pics of some Sooties (Sootie Albatross) then over to the west coast where there was a really nice sets roll in. THEN the weather turned for the worse and when we could get outside it wasn't all that nice so most of last week we have been working inside with the exception of a couple days.  50 knots or 92kph docent sound like much but mix some rain a little sleet and snow and uneven rocky ground and it makes it interesting, but not for photography.

So what do i have install for you this week, well lots of pics from one of our Tas Parks Rangers who has been all over the island and has MUCH more interesting pics than me. A few pictures from Fridgy and even less pics from me. BUT this week its all about the pics so enjoy!!

No I'm not here JUST for a holiday believe it or not i do actually do some work. Below are some pics of the progress of the machinery shed we are building this season. Getting there slowly and there are some difficulties in building it here as the weather sometimes docent want to play the game but its all good. The bottom right pic you'll see the shed we are replacing as its so badly rusted away it is over due to be pulled down. BUT before we do we are using it as a little bit of a wind break for the construction of the new shed until it gets in our road then it will be pulled down to make way for the new.

The chef as per normal is doing a wicked job in feeding us. I think that as important as senior management is if the chef is not in a good mood then the station isn't either........Jimmy however has kept the station very happy...........

Below is a couple pics which don't really give it justice. However the swells over the back of the shot below were 5m wind as i said earlier in the blog were gusting to over 50 knots and temp was about 5-6c.

Last week we also had another tourist ship arrive but this one was a little different. The Arctic P (HERE and have a look at no5) and unlike most tourist ships that normally carry up to 100 passengers this one only had 12. Now you'd think thats a expensive tour and you'd be right as the other ships charge up to $15,000 to come so when i tell you who owns the boat it will all make sense. Its a Packer owned boat and yep Packers were on it. They made it to Sandy Bay where we saw the last tourist ship but when it came time for them to come onto station the weather took a real turn for the worse and making it ashore was impossible.

HERE is another article of the ship while it was docked in Hobart before it came here!

Well I think i have given you all more than enough to chew over this week. Less talking mainly as I'm not in the mood for it but billions of words in all the pics............

Enjoy

Michael
